Have you ever noticed how easy it is to put your life on autopilot?
We wake up the same way, drive the same roads, eat the same breakfast, exercise the same way, and finish our days with the same routines. While routines can bring comfort and stability, they can also quietly keep us from growing.
Lately, I've been challenging myself with something surprisingly difficult.
I've started walking instead of running.
Now, if you know me, you know I love to run. I love the challenge, the feeling of accomplishment, and even pushing through the hard parts. Walking, on the other hand? It has never really been "my thing."
At first, I found myself constantly checking my pace, wanting to speed up, wondering if I was "doing enough."
But then something interesting happened.
I started noticing things I had been running right past.
The flowers along the roadside.
The sound of birds.
The cool morning air.
The way the sunlight filters through the trees.
I realized I wasn't just exercising differently—I was experiencing my mornings differently.
Sometimes the greatest growth doesn't come from working harder.
Sometimes it comes from slowing down.
It made me wonder...
What if we all chose one small thing this week that feels just a little outside our comfort zone?
Maybe instead of grabbing your phone first thing in the morning, you spend eight minutes stretching, doing a few bodyweight exercises, or simply taking a quiet walk outside.
Maybe you read ten pages of a book instead of turning on the television.
Maybe you strike up a conversation with someone you've never met.
Maybe you drive a different route home, try a new recipe, or finally sign up for that class you've been thinking about.
It doesn't have to be a huge life change.
Small changes interrupt autopilot.
They wake up your brain.
They build confidence.
They remind you that you're capable of adapting.
And who knows?
You might discover that the thing you resisted most becomes the thing you needed most.
This week, I challenge you to step just one inch outside your comfort zone.
Not because it's easy.
Because that's where growth begins.
So tomorrow morning...
Before you reach for your phone...
Before you tell yourself you're too busy...
Before you fall into the same routine...
Ask yourself:
"What's one small thing I can do differently today?"
It might only take eight minutes.
But it could change the entire direction of your day.
"A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there."
